Digital Readworks
I recently discovered a
website called Digital Readworks where students go online and read articles
assigned by the teacher. After reading
the article they can learn about vocabulary and then complete comprehension
questions about what they’ve read. Once
the assignment is completed they submit their answers online where the teacher
is able to grade them. I’ve signed up
our class and had a few of the students test it out. Their feedback was very positive and others
are excited to try this out. I will
assign a new article every week and students have the week to complete it. This is voluntary, but a great way to work on
reading and comprehension at home.
Keyboarding Skills
During our computer time, we
have been learning about proper posture and keyboarding skills. Students are working through lessons that teach
them the proper fingers to use for each key.
They are encouraged to practise this when working on the computer at
home.
Math Prodigy
Due to our Keyboarding Skills
practice, we have not been using Math Prodigy as much at school lately. Students are encouraged to continue to use it
to practise their math skills at home.
It is definitely something that most of them enjoy.
MyTools2Go
Before the Christmas holidays
a note was sent home regarding student use of MyTools2Go. Each student has an account and a
password. This is something that
students can use to create a document that automatically saves. They don’t have to worry about losing
something they created or using a memory stick to save. We won’t be using this very often, but I hope
to introduce them to it soon.
