Hello. We are up to 9 students in our Google Classroom and hopefully a few more later today! As of Monday, April 6 we will need everyone in as the second phase of Learn at Home will officially begin.
Here are a few details from the Ministry and the Board:
- Kindergarten to Grade Three: 5 hours of work per student per week
- focus is on literacy, math, and religion
- teacher-led instruction/engagement: lessons given/posted 2 times/week
- teacher-led support/engagement: available 3 times/week (there will be scheduled time)
More information will come as we try this out on Monday. I believe all forms of communication will then be on Google Classroom. This is new to all of us and it is definitely not the ideal situation, but we will go slow and take it step by step.
Thank you to the parents who have checked in, read all the info, followed the instructions and signed up their child. I really appreciate your assistance and cooperation. We are definitely going to need to work together in all of this.
Stay safe and take care.

UPDATE - THURS. APR. 2
We now have 7 students who have joined our Google Classroom!!! Let's keep going! I will be emailing parents whose child has not signed up yet, so hopefully we can have everyone in by Monday. Instructions are posted under Tuesday's blog.
Here is information posted on the Holy Name Blog and Facebook page today:
Our teachers have been hard at work establishing online platforms for learning. Teachers in JK/SK and SK/1 will be using the SeeSaw application, and all other teachers will be delivering curriculum using the Google Classroom. Your child has received a code to access the Google Classroom in their Gmail Inbox. Your help is needed to ensure that your child has accessed that code and is connected to their online classroom.
STUDENTS IN GRADES 1-3: need to set up their Google account and password. Below is the step by step instructions on how to do this. If you are experiencing difficulty, please send an email to your child’s teacher by entering firstname_lastname@wecdsb.on. ca.

WED. APR. 1
Hello! I am so happy to see that 2 students have joined our Google Classroom! If you could please pass on the information to other families I would really appreciate it. Please tell them to check the Classroom Blog for important and updated information.
I hope that you have read the letter put out yesterday by Stephen Lecce. This gives some idea of what you are to expect with respect to Continuous Learning. This is going to be new and challenging for all of us, but we will figure it out together. I have attached a link for the letter below.

UPDATE: MON. MARCH 30
Hello Everyone. I hope that you are all doing well. Students, I miss all of you very much and think about you often.
As you may know, things are changing every day and often several times a day with respect to online learning. Instead of "Distance Learning" you will now hear the term "Continuous Learning" as it has been changed by the Ministry. As of now, we are still waiting for a date to post any online activities. The Board has now activated student email accounts so I am hoping that the information in my March 24 post will be helpful.
"For now, I have attempted to set up Google Classroom and would like to know if your child received an invitation to join in their school email account. We have never accessed their email at school, but I've tested a few out and I think it should work. It is through Google and their email address would look like this: firstname.lastname@mytools2go.ca Once the password bar comes up I believe it is their birthday all in numbers using day month year (no spaces). The password can then be changed to one that they will remember. If you could test this out for me that would be great. I will know if it worked for you if I see that your child has joined our Google Classroom."
I would appreciate your help by spreading word to other parents to check our blog regularly. I will continue to post updated information on here.
As we try to get through this time, please take care of yourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE - PLEASE READ
Hello Everyone. Apparently students will not be able to receive the invite to Google Classroom by email like I thought since the email has not been set up for those below Grade 3. The Board is working on figuring out a way for parents to receive information about class codes for Google Classroom. If you go to Google Classroom and put in our class code: hq5in6a you may be able to join. Maybe this will work. Fingers crossed.

HELLO EVERYONE!!!
HELLO EVERYONE!!!
I hope that everyone has had a good March Break in spite of all the uncertainty and everything going on around us. I hope that everyone is healthy and practising appropriate safety measures. Students, I wish we were back together in the classroom and I want you to know that I miss you all so much!
Parents, as you may have heard, we will be setting up some online learning shortly. There is an important message from the director on the Board's website in case you haven't seen it. This is going to be new for a lot of us and we will need to take things slowly and one step at a time.
